Living at the Corley Centre

Here is some information about the residential area of school.

People who sleep at school all live in the Peugeot wing, which is upstairs near to the main entrance. There is a lounge, kitchen, laundry, a girl’s wing and a boy’s wing, which have bathrooms, toilets and showers near to the bedrooms. There are waking night staff who will be able to help if you have any problems during the night.

The Care Staff will look after you and the other children will help you to get used to where things are. You will already have had a home visit so we can find out what you like and dislike and you will be able to look around and ask questions before you stay.

Where will I sleep? / Will I share a room?

There are single bedrooms and rooms with 4 beds, which have partitions so you have your own space. You can bring posters and photographs from home and your own duvet cover if you want to. You have a wardrobe to hang your clothes in.

Will I have jobs to do?

You will make your own bed and keep your room tidy. You will try to wash and iron your clothes and to make drinks, snacks and meals. You might like to invite your parents / carers or friends to share the meal you have cooked. There is a rota for washing up and you will take it in turn to clear the tables after meals.

You will get up at 7.45am; you may have an alarm clock to get yourself up or the staff will wake you. You will have a shower or a wash and get dressed for school, make your bed and check your room is tidy. Breakfast is at 8.15am and after breakfast you will brush your teeth and get ready for school.

What will I do after school?

There are different activities after school from swimming, bowling, and trips to town and after school clubs. Later in the evening you may have some homework to do. You can watch television or a DVD (we will only let you watch DVD’S that are suitable for your age group) or play on the computer, have a bath or shower and some quiet time before bed. Sometimes we go out on a special trip or visit that students help to organise.
